Father Ignatius on establishing a just society

And so when the Church finds herself in the midst of an unjust society with unjust laws and evil leaders she does not fear because she has trust in our Lord’s promise that the gates of hell will not prevail against her. But that doesn’t mean that the Church is simply on the defensive to protect herself and preserve those truths, no, the Church is on the offensive, the Church militant – we are on the attack to overcome and burst through the gates of hell and to do away with sin and error and to save as many souls as possible. So, just like the social doctrine of the Church teaches, there will really only be a just society when societies fulfill their moral duty with respect to the one true religion and the one Church of Christ. This is the teaching of the Second Vatican Council. The document on Human Dignity says, reaffirms, the Church’s teaching of the moral duty of men and societies towards the true religion and toward the one Church of Christ. Societies have a moral duty (they don’t have a civil duty, they don’t have to answer to the state or any human power) - but moral duty means they have a responsibility before Almighty God. That includes society here in America. American society has a moral duty towards the true religion and toward the one Church of Christ. Now what is this moral duty? This moral duty is to embrace that true religion, to proclaim it, to recognize it and to favor it as the one true religion, the one Church of Christ founded on Peter the Rock. And this is really the only way to adjust society…and this is the only way to establish a just society.
