I have a wonderful autistic little boy who is smart, sweet, and nice. Academically he is moving through the levels quickly. He's high functioning autistic, and can eventually mainstream into general ed, I'm confident on that.
But one big problem. He is not potty trained. He'll sit in a stinky diaper or wet diaper for hours if we let him. He knows he did poo poo or pee pee but wont do anything about it. He doesn't care. He has 0 ability to self-regulate here.
If he passes gas we will tell him to sit on the potty. And we do ask him to sit multiple times and he never does anything.
How do I get this kid to potty train? Nothing works. Cheerios trick doesn't work. We tried the no diaper trick, he peed on the floor. We tried rewarding him with his favorite candy, doesn't work.
I'm seriously worried this kid will never learn this. I mean he's not even TRYING.
