What is the origin of the "rapture" doctrine?

Hi everybody.

I have read about many protestant doctrines, some of them are really strange, of course; but none like the rapture.

I guess early christians didn't believe in the rapture, neither early protestants did it, this is like a "neo-protestant-doctrine".

I would like to know wath the origin of this doctrine is?, I don't think Jesus would keep an additional non-biblical coming as a secrets, and that would contradic "sola scriptura".
