Disclaimer #1

When posting in this forum, I will sometimes use terms describing what one “ought” to do when praying the Liturgy of the Hours, the “correct” way to pray it, etc. All that I mean by such terminology is the method of praying the breviary in accordance with the General Instruction of the Liturgy of the Hours,, the rubrics of the breviary, and other relevant Church documents. I will also sometimes refer to various books written about the Liturgy of the Hours in order to provide further clarity.

On the other hand, such expressions of mine should not be interpreted as me rejecting the efficacy of prayer for a layperson who prays the Liturgy of the Hours in a manner different from the way I described. Praying the Divine Office can be an enriching channel of grace into the lives of the laity, regardless of how well the various instructions are followed (and therefore, generally speaking, there is no “wrong way” to pray it).

Disclaimer #2

When I refer to a day as “not being designated as a holy day”, I simply mean that this day is not designated as a Commemoration, Optional Memorial, Memorial, Feast or Solemnity. This is not to imply that I somehow reject the sanctity of each and every day (especially Sundays, each of which is considered a solemnity of the Lord).

Disclaimer #3

I would like The Fellowship of the Breviary forum to be open to discussing a variety of breviaries, not just the Liturgy of the Hours. However, generally speaking, my posts will always be addressing an aspect of the Liturgy of the Hours unless I specifically indicate otherwise (i.e., I will clearly state that I am describing The Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Celtic Prayers from Iona, etc. when making references to such breviaries).

Disclaimer #4

In terms of the Divine Office, the instructions, commentaries and page numbers posted by me on these various threads are based upon the current editions of the various breviaries used in the official version of the LOTH designated for the United States and certain other English-speaking countries. The Liturgy of the Hours, Volume 3, Ordinary Time: Weeks 1 – 17 (New York: Catholic Book Publishing Company, 1975). This will be usually be abbreviated by me as LOTH, Vol. 3.

The Liturgy of the Hours, Volume 4, Ordinary Time: Weeks 18 – 34 (New York: Catholic Book Publishing Company, 1975). This will be usually be abbreviated by me as LOTH, Vol. 4.

Naturally, if new editions of any of these breviaries are released at some future point, the page numbers may not match what has been posted in the various threads in this forum.
